Job Summary
The Engineering Surveyor plays the lead role in providing high-level surveying to the engineering and geology departments as part of the open pit mining operation. The Surveyor will utilize a Trimble GPS Rover, Wingtra Drone and Hexagon mine planning software to perform survey functions.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Follows company and legislated company rules and procedures
- Contributes to the department’s health, safety and environmental goals and objectives
- Communicates safety and environmental concerns to the Senior Engineer and/or takes corrective action
- Ability to work in a variety of climatic conditions associated with the desert
- Daily topographic pickup of production advances
- Staking of road, pit, dump, and leach pad designs
- Design, staking and pickup of blast patterns, as well as import/export functions of progression.
- Production volume calculations
- Update the site as-built drawing to reflect all mining and construction activity
- Communicate and correct deviations from the mine plan (over digging/dumping, leaving material behind on walls, too high benches, etc.) with mine operations
- UAV Flight planning, design, and completion for aerial surveying of pit progression and monitoring.
- Mining Claim and Site Control maintenance and inspection or updating as needed.
- Operation and initial setup of ground-based scanner and total station for surface monitoring, digface auditing and updating of records within tracking software.
- Communication of drilling and survey consumables inventory to ensure production drills and mining grade controls continue without interruption.
- Diagnosis and correction of basic GPS functionality on production drill onboard systems and Trimble Base Station.
Knowledge, Skill And Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; Degree in technology preferred, FAA certification to fly UAS
- Basic understanding of grid systems and orienting NS and EW
- Use of basic hand and power tools
- Proper use and care of sensitive electronics and high value and fragile tools
- Good time management ability and task prioritization for mining continuity.
- Basic computer knowledge (AutoCAD, Word, Excel, digital communication), Basic mine planning software, Proficient math skills, including trigonometry; Proficiency with GPS, total station, conventional survey equipment and drones.
- Use and setup of tripods, leveling devices, scanners and total stations.
- Use of flight planning METAR and AIRNAV websites
- Safe operation of a pickup on various ground conditions and in high traffic areas
- Ability to assess and determine safe work areas and conditions.
The hourly range for this position is from $32.33 - $37.00 based on experience.
