Working with individuals with developmental delays and chronic mental illness with their daily living skills in a home like environment. You would help them live normal lives in the community, engage in activities such as going to the movies, the library, getting a job, preparing for the working world, or doing normal chores at home.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

- Listening and communication skills vital along with being dependable and dedicated to helping dependent adults achieve their highest level of functioning.
- Must be a self-starter and be able to set your own daily agenda and complete tasks without management daily guidance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONISIBILITIES:
- It is for direct care staff, certifications such as medication manager, CPR, dependent adult abuse, c3 de-escalation, mental health first aid, CPI - ALL HELPFUL BUT NOT REQUIRED - WE WILL TRAIN!!
- THIS IS A JOB WHERE WILLINGNESS TO LEARN, PATIENCE AND SETTING BOUNDARIES IS A MUST.
- Function as a liaison between Clients, Case Managers / IHH, and Anchor Homes, Inc. and Federal Probation
- Participate as an Anchor Homes, Inc. team member by facilitating cooperation and teamwork.
- Subscribe to Anchor Homes, Inc. Mission statement and Code of Ethics and Understanding the Consumer’s Rights.
- Follow Anchor Homes, Inc. policies and procedures.
- Maintain a positive and working relationship with community organizations, case managers, and the advisory board.
- Preferred experience caring for dependent adults who have intellectual delays and / or mental health diagnosis
- 18 years of age, minimum
- High School diploma (or proof from an accredited institution with graduation date), or GED
- Clear DPS fingerprint/CPS background check
- Pass pre-employment drug screen AND random drug screenings
- Reliable transportation
- Able to lift 25 pounds, minimum
- Follow care plan consistent with the standards established by the clients ISP
- Provide care consistent with the standards established by the contracting agency
- Provide care within the limitations of authorizations and work orders
- Maintain client rights and confidentiality at all times
- Ensure safety and well-being of dependent adult while in the home or community
- Interact and engage with the dependent adult during activities
- Guide the client through established tasks and report progress
- Report unusual incidents promptly and thoroughly, according to policy
- Complete agency required documentation
- Maintain communication with the agency and families
- Maintain training and certifications required by contracting agencies
- Abide by all agency policies and procedures
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to define problems, problem solve and work in the best interest of the client and the company, to be able to draw valid conclusions; exhibit independent judgment in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures and policies.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of community organization, ability to plan, direct and coordinate activities; work with health care providers, commercial vendors, government agencies, community groups and other organizations as necessary; communicate effectively in both written and oral forms; exhibit independent judgment in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures and policies.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance; maintain a safe and reliable vehicle for transportation.
- Pass a Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Registry record check and acceptance.
- PASS a Iowa Department of Safety criminal record check and acceptance by the agency.
- CPR certified or willing to be trained
- Dependent Adult Abuse training upon being hired
- Travel in state and occasional travel out of state for conference, trainings, and meetings and client appointments.
For a full time position that may include evenings, weekends, holidays and on call requirements, this all will be discussed at interview. Some travel may be required. Pay will depend on experience and current knowledge of above list, and also of education level.
