About this role:
We are looking for a Controller to work from our administrative office located in Spring Valley, CA under the direction of the President. In this position the The Controller is responsible for the management and reporting of financial data of the organization by managing multiple accounting functions and operations such as general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue, assets, cost, and tax accounting. Primary duties include monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting closing processes and reporting that include analyzing and presenting financial statements, examine and analyze the company’s accounts and ensure compliance with financial reporting that adheres to governmental financial and tax regulations and complies with GAAP standards. Routinely evaluate accounting processes and systems and implement optimizations to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of our financial processes, procedures and systems, and risk management.
Summary:
This is a key role at Casper Company as it will serve as a credible, trusted advisor to provide solutions and recommendations to enhance operational effectiveness and ultimately drive improved business outcomes by routinely evaluating accounting processes and systems and implementing optimizations to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of our financial processes, procedures and systems (ERP).
The Controller uses a variety of hard and soft skills to help the organization improve their accounting and finance strategies and meet their goals. The successful Controller provides problem solving with all levels of the organization on accounting related issues in areas of financial compliance, researches, develops and administers processes and systems that ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws while supporting the department’s overall goals
Essential Functions:
Some of the essential functions of this position are:
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, including WIP, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for the construction industry.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to accounting and tax related matters.
- Collaborates with HR Director to ensure accurate and appropriate payment processes, policies, and reporting.
- Manage and lead staff accountant, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other processes and team members in accounting and finance.
- Monitor daily cash management and cash control processes, as well as reconcile the company’s bank statements.
- Collaborate with Division Leaders and other shareholders to review financial performance, adherence to procedures, and to implement corrective actions as needed.
- Develop and maintain company budgets and forecasts, and monitor results on a monthly basis.
- Ensure accuracy of job cost system, including project budgets, costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and various construction progress reports.
- Implement and maintain robust financial controls and procedures.
- Manage corporate stock, equity, and shareholder records.
- Coordinate with external auditors and customers for project audits and financial reviews.
- Manage process for proper coding of construction invoices and processing of vendor lien releases.
- Utilize and manage financial software and systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency, as well as interface with the software providers.

What you'll need:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and construction financial reporting.
- Strong experience in AP, AR, banking activities, credit card reconciliations, general ledger account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Extensive experience in managing payroll, certified payroll, wage calculations, and fringe benefits.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Knowledge of Federal and California laws and tax-related regulations.
- Proficiency in using financial software and ERP systems. Construction-specific software is a plus.
- Possess and demonstrate exceptional judgment, ethics, integrity, and be self-motivated, and detail oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction contracts, lien releases, and other pertinent construction documents.
- Excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to constantly improve processes
- Ability to manage budgets, forecast financial outcomes, and ensure the financial health of the company.
- Experience in the implementation of software and processes.
Training & Education
A successful candidate should have experience with accounting and financial software and stay up to date with current trends. Additional training and education requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master’s degree or CPA is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in financial management, preferably within the construction industry.
Other Requirements:
This position is a full in office position, and not a hybrid position.
