Job Description
Van Acker Construction is looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented
Design Coordinator (DC) experienced in high end residential design and construction to join our team. The Design Coordinator is part of larger project teams, often reporting directly to the Project Manager (PM) and Site Superintendent while working tangentially with the contract architect / design team.
Between the design team and the site construction team, the Design Coordinator (DC) is responsible for the coordination of design and to facilitate and solidify design intent necessary for efficient construction. The DC manages inevitable change in a timely manner. The DC also creates, manages, tracks, and updates current drawings, as-built drawings, permits, and other project information and materials.
Job Duties
Include but are not limited to the following:
- Managing and overseeing multiple design and engineering consultants to ensure that their documents and information integrates with the architecture and the complete scope of the project. This includes managing construction information from scopes of work, proposals, submittals, RFIs, etc
- Communicating and conveying design changes to field management staff and subcontractors
- Supporting the team by mitigating uncertainty in both cost and schedule throughout the process, and ensuring the final project is completed on time and within budget
- Providing required liaison efforts, solutions, documentation, systems upkeep, schedule directives, and everyday management for seamless project execution
- Ensures that all project deliverables are competent for construction, quality, fit and finish, cost management and meet Van Acker Construction’s high standards of excellence and industry best practices
Education, Experience And Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management
- 5-8 years of experience in residential construction design coordination
- 3-5 years of experience in computer drafting
- Familiarity with the full architectural and construction development systems that outline a buildable high-quality project
- Strong computer skills including, AutoCAD, Revit, intermediate or advanced Excel, Google Docs, Autodesk Build, Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam Revu, and cloud-based storage systems (i.e., Box and Dropbox). Adobe Photoshop helpful but not required
- Professionalism in dealing with architects, designers, subcontractors, consultants, crafts people, and co-workers
- Independent and self-starting with a penchant for details and hitting deadlines
- Motivation to continually learn and take on additional responsibilities while maintaining a positive attitude
- Looks ahead and organizes activities to stay on top of the project’s ever-changing needs
- Ownership: Is committed to the success of the project, their teammates, and the company
- Must live in the local area and be eligible to work in the U.S

Base salary range is $140,000 - $160,000 per year, plus annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will be based upon relevant work experience, education, and/or skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer.
This is a full time exempt (salaried) position working out of our Mill Valley office Monday through Friday. Remote work is not available. Overtime may be required during various phases of the project. The Design Coordinator may also be required to drive to the jobsite from time-to-time and must meet the Company’s driving requirements.
