The Preconstruction Manager is responsible for coordinating all awarded (“won”) Rain for Rent projects from post sale through handoff to Project Management. This role ensures customer requirements, scope, and commercial terms are fully defined; plans manpower and equipment resources; develops detailed preconstruction schedules; coordinates procurement and subcontractors; and finalizes all documentation needed for smooth project execution.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field is required. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction, industrial services, temporary fluid handling systems, or project coordination is required. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience working with equipment based or rental based service projects is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong understanding of construction workflows, preconstruction planning, and subcontractor coordination.
- Knowledge of pumps, piping systems, filtration, HDPE, and temporary fluid management equipment is preferred.
- Ability to read plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong scheduling, resource planning, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to coordinate across departments and with customers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, scheduling tools, and Rain for Rent systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer & Project Scope Finalization
- Review awarded project proposals, quotes, and contract documents to confirm scope, schedule, and commercial requirements.
- Lead customer kickoff meetings to finalize expectations, deliverables, and site conditions.
- Develop preconstruction workflows similar to documented practices seen in Rain for Rent agreements (ex: scope surveys, submittals, logistics)
Coordination & Documentation
- Confirm all contractual terms, exceptions, submittals, and compliance documentation. Communicate operational terms to branch & project management teams.
- Prepare project documents including scope statements, schedules, submittals, safety requirements, manpower plans, and equipment lists.
- Issue formal handoff packages to Project Managers ensuring complete readiness for field execution.
- Success in the function is ensuring that no project starts without
Procurement & Subcontractor Management
- Identify required materials, equipment, and third‑party services.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Fleet, and approved subcontractors to secure long‑lead items and services.
- Support negotiation and alignment of subcontract scopes.
Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed project schedules that integrate procurement, fabrication, mobilization, installation, and pump operations.
- Build manpower plans and coordinate labor allocation with Branch Operations.
- Ensure site readiness, access, safety requirements, and logistics are fully addressed before mobilization.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Sales, Estimating, Engineering, Fleet, Branch Ops, and the Contracts team to resolve scope gaps, clarify deliverables, and coordinate internal workflows.
- Participate in internal preconstruction, project kickoff, and After-Action Report meetings.
Handoff to Project Management
- Deliver a complete preconstruction package to assigned Project Managers, including schedule, scope confirmations, procurement status, subcontractor details, and risk notes.
- Provide ongoing support during early phases of execution to ensure a smooth transition.
- Establish project profitability goals and clarify budgets for costs.
- Ensure no assigned project commences with unresolved scope gaps.
- Other duties as assigned in support of the operation.
Work Environment:
At Rain for Rent, in-person work at our offices and/or branch location is a top priority because it allows us to more effectively collaborate, connect, and builds a workplace culture that drives our continued success. This role requires onsite presence at a RfR office and/or branch location. Except for limited circumstances, remote and/or hybrid options are not offered at this time.
