About the Role
GIS Specialist will compile and organize data from maps, databases, field surveys, and other sources to generate maps for various environmental projects. This position will predominantly be office GIS assignments but may include data collection related field work tasks on occasion.
What You'll Do
- Assist with performing environmental work involving collection of environmental data from site investigations and oversight of construction activities.
- Assist with spatial data creation, maintenance and dissemination, end-user support and the generation of maps and other GIS information and products.
- Assist in preparing topographical and relief maps in ArcGIS using survey data.
- Compile and organize GIS data from maps, databases, and other sources.
- Frequently interact with technical staff members (e.g., engineers, geologists, and scientists) to assess their GIS/mapping needs and update them on the status of their map generation requests.
- Provide support to (backstops) others during peak workload events.
- Performs quality control on GIS data.
- Accept responsibility for meeting standards of quality required by ERRG.
- Meet internal deadlines.
- Work effectively, both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- Assist in development and maintenance of company-wide templates and mapping standards.
- Communicate effectively with others; ask appropriate questions to clarify expectations and promote learning.
- Adhere to project-specific and corporate-wide safety policies.
- Learn and follow appropriate data standards requested by clients, such as the Department of Defense’s Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) and the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) Standards for metadata.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university.
- 5+ years of industry-related experience.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Online and apps.
- Proficiency using ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap.
- Basic knowledge of SQL and/or Python programming languages.
- Familiarity with Trimble Pathfinder Office software, Trimble GPS units and field data collectors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft software (Excel, Access and/or SQL Server).
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding basic geographic principles, including projections and transformations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
California Salary Range: $90,000 USD - $100,000 USD
