The Product Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and refine hardware and software features for home energy storage products, ensuring seamless integration with solar and battery systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include translating product requirements into technical specifications, implementing and testing full-stack solutions, troubleshooting performance issues, and contributing to continuous product improvement. The role also involves collaborating with R&D, product design, and manufacturing teams to optimize system reliability, user experience, and installation efficiency, while maintaining detailed documentation and supporting product releases.

- Candidates should possess Product Design skills to contribute to user-centric, manufacturable, and scalable energy storage solutions.
- Candidates should possess effective Communication skills to collaborate with engineering, R&D, product management, and operations teams.
- Experience with full-stack development (front-end and back-end), APIs, and embedded or IoT systems related to energy or hardware products.
- Proficiency with modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, React, Node.js, or similar) and version control tools.

The role
This role is dedicated to building out our front end, with the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of the product experience and help shape how our products come to life. The role has two key areas of focus.
Core Responsibilities
Web portal:
- Own the product surfaces: admin, installs, alarms UX, account/settings, onboarding flows, forms
- Own front-end quality: keep typecheck/lint/test gates green and enforced, burn down tracked type debt, stabilize flaky tests
- Build the API-consumer side of new features against a clean one-hook-per-domain architecture
- Two-way code review with the technical lead
Mobile (no prior React Native required — it is TypeScript + React + jest, the same skills):
- Take two Expo apps through build, store submission, and review — then own versioning, releases, and maintenance
- Close out the release checklist alongside the technical lead
- Keep the 1,000+-test mobile suite green as the apps evolves
First 90 days
- Day 30: Type debt cleared and gates enforced; first product surfaces shipped; reviewing pull requests.
- Day 60: Owns routine web feature work; first store builds submitted for both apps.
- Day 90: Both apps live and maintained by this role.
Qualifications — must have
- 3+ years shipping React + TypeScript products (professional, production, users)
- Testing as a habit — comfortable in vitest/jest + Testing Library; does not ship red gates
- Solid API-integration instincts (data fetching/caching, error states, loading states that don’t lie)
- Fluent, critical use of AI coding tools — moves fast with them and verifies what is produced
- Self-directed — this is a two-engineer front end; owns outcomes, not tickets
Nice to have
- Expo/React Native and app-store release experience
- Python familiarity; charts or mapping libraries; design-system experience (Tailwind, Radix/shadcn)
- Energy/solar/IoT domain interest
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision
- 401(k)
- Paid Time Off (PTO)
- Paid company holidays
Salary Range: $160,000 to $190,000 yearly, based on skills and experience
