Job Description: Lab Technician - Synthetic Biology Team
Role Overview:
We are seeking a lab technician to support the synthetic biology team in a DNA extraction pipeline as part of an R&D project for the Biosciences Center.
Responsibilities:
Perform DNA extraction and processing of unconventional samples.
Organize, pre-treat, and document large numbers of samples for the extraction pipeline.
Independently perform a variety of molecular biology tasks including PCRs, DNA purifications, and quantification assays.
Troubleshoot and optimize individual steps in the extraction pipeline.
Qualifications:
B.S. (Biology, Biochemistry, or related biosciences field) with 2 years of relevant lab experience and/or M.S. (Biochemistry, Biology, or Chemistry).
Key Skills:
Molecular and microbiology skillset, including experience with DNA extractions, PCRs, and basic techniques of molecular cloning.
Industrial research and development experience, including high throughput sample processing/screening.
Proficient in Excel for data analysis and sample management. Use of basic statistics and Excel-based tracking, requiring good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Automated liquid handling experience.
Ability to communicate effectively within and between teams.
Able to work under minimal supervision and prioritize tasks.
Demonstrated commitment to safety in the work environment.

Flammable chemicals (e.g., ethanol)
Corrosives (e.g., ammonia hydroxide, sulfuric acid)
Toxic chemicals (e.g., metal salts)
Compressed gases (e.g., nitrogen, air, oxygen)
