Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the fire sprinkler design department
- Supervise, train, and mentor fire sprinkler designers
- Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, and code compliance
- Manage design schedules and ensure projects meet required deadlines
- Coordinate with project managers, field personnel, general contractors, architects, engineers, and other trades
- Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plans
- Oversee hydraulic calculations and system design
- Review material selections and system requirements
- Manage BIM/Revit coordination when required
- Review plans before submission to AHJs
- Coordinate and respond to plan-check comments
- Assist with complex design and code-related issues
- Maintain company design standards and quality-control procedures
- Help improve design efficiency and department productivity
- Coordinate design changes with project management and field operations
Qualifications
- Strong fire sprinkler design experience
- Thorough knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 13R, NFPA 13D, and applicable fire/building codes
- Experience with hydraulic calculations
- Experience with AutoCAD and fire sprinkler design software
- Must know Revit
- Revit/BIM experience strongly preferred
- Ability to read and coordinate construction documents
- Strong understanding of commercial construction and field installation
- Experience managing or mentoring designers preferred
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- California fire sprinkler design experience strongly preferred
- NICET certification is preferred but not required depending on experience
