Our knowledgeable and dedicated BC Geomatics team is searching for an experienced locator in the Lower Mainland/Greater Vancouver area.
We are looking for someone with a technical background, love of exploring, working outside, and a voracious appetite for utility locating!
What you will do:
- Manage and perform accurate field buried utility locating
- Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field utility locating work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and utility locating methodology
- Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra
- Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences
- Review, manage and record keeping of all buried utilities ranging from Gas, electrical, telecommunications, fibers, city/municipality infrastructure ex: water, sewer, sanitary, storm ..etc
- Provide guidance, training and mentorship to junior locators as required
- Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology
- Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the GeoVerra safety program
- Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned
What you will bring:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Locating Technician, damage prevention technician, or utility locator in the municipal and energy sectors
- ASTTBC Registered Utility Locator (RULT) certification is preferred
- Previous experience locating underground utilities such as gas, electrical, telecommunications, fiber optics, water, sanitary, storm, and sewer within Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, BC
- Locating experience within energy facilities and pipeline right-of-way projects
- Experience reading and interpreting various types of buried utility records including energy-related gas lines, telecommunication records, ArcGIS, and city infrastructure
- Ability to troubleshoot and interpret measurement discrepancies and record issues before following the GeoVerra escalation process to resolve and complete locating assignments
- Experience and ability to demonstrate sketching and drawing capabilities to transform utility locating marks and fieldwork into paperwork and digital notes accurately and in a timely manner
- Strong working knowledge of utility locating theories, fundamentals, and ground disturbance practices
- Experience in a municipal setting completing locates and scans
- Ability to use GPR units in the field and interpret the results
- Familiarity with Land Surveying and use of Trimble RTK units would be considered an asset
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget in a field environment
- Effective communication skills - verbal and written; accurate and legible field notes and sketches
- Knowledge and experience of pipeline, lease, and facility construction would be considered an asset
- The ability to develop and motivate line locating staff and work well in a team environment
- A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace
Job Conditions
- Out-of-town work (possible shift work) might be required
- Ability to carry, lift and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
