JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Superintendent, with guidance from the Superintendent/Sr. Superintendent, supports field activities for self-performed work, subcontractor work, and field logistical items by coordinating and assisting Pankow employees, union employees, and guiding subcontractors. This role acts as an assistant to the leaders in the field in key focus areas of Lean, Quality and Safety.
JOB SCOPE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Primary Accountabilities
- Ensures conformance with Safety requirements
- Acts as an onsite Safety Officer for field operations and ensures conformance with Pankow Safety Practices
- Assists in ensuring that Safety Inspections are completed on a daily basis and that inspections focus on the appropriate high risk work activities
- Participates in daily task plans, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s), and Toolbox Talks
- Assists in leading Safety Orientations that occur for all Pankow new hires and subcontractor personnel on the site
- Assist in driving the execution of and completing the work
- Coordinate and assist with scheduling of assigned subcontractors and self-performed work
- Participates in daily Lean Huddles and promotes Pankow’s Lean Culture
- Communicates schedule issues to appropriate team members by:
- Assisting with the updating of the Pankow weekly work plan, and providing updates to the team at daily check-ins
- Participates in Subcontractor Coordination Meetings
- Participates in the Superintendent’s development of means & methods and site logistics for the project
- Assist with ensuring quality meets the expectations described in the Contract Documents
- Maintains an understanding of the Project Requirements at every stage of the project
- Assists Superintendent in monitoring compliance with the Project Specific Quality Management Plan (PSQMP)
- Ensures that Foreman and field engineering staff are working together to jointly perform the quality control surveys for our self-performed work
- Acts as a liaison for all inspectors – if Superintendent is unavailable
- Works collaboratively with the Pankow Team
- Supports Superintendent by communicating consistently and frequently with field engineering staff to obtain detail information required for construction
- Inform and provides guidance to field engineering staff regarding omissions and conflicts within the documents needing resolution
- Works with team to review estimate and set goals, measure production, and achieve profitability goals
- Work collaboratively with Subcontractors
- Assists with scope review, preconstruction, and pre-install meetings
- Resolve conflicts and coordination issues when appropriate
- Monitor their workforce needs to ensure adherence to the schedule
- Tracks and supplies notification of back charges to subcontractors is communicated in a timely manner
- Other Accountabilities
- Complete Daily Diaries and daily project photos
- Learn and engage with all union agreements and OSHA safety requirements
- Learn and engage with union labor in proper work techniques
- Assist with planning and maintaining clear paths of travel and cleanliness on jobsite
- Manage onsite equipment tracking log to ensure accurate accounting of onsite equipment
- Review time cards from the craft foreman for accuracy and conformance to the cost coding system
- Flexibility with work hours to cover extended work hours (Night shifts, weekends, etc)
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training
- Internal - Successful completion of Pankow Project Engineer I/II roles is typical
- Union Foreman Training is typical
- Working towards a Safety Trained Supervisor Certification preferred (OSHA 30)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Effective communication skills, sense of urgency and ownership, ability to work as part of a team
Work Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of jobsite field experience and/or 4 years of job site management experience is typical
