KWC Engineers is seeking a highly skilled Survey Mapping Specialist who holds a Licensed Surveyor (LS) credential and possesses expertise in boundary establishment, cut sheets, and mapping for civil engineering and land development projects. This role provides technical expertise in processing, analyzing, and interpreting survey data to support field crews and project managers by performing calculations, preparing accurate survey maps, and transforming raw data into precise, actionable information. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of public and private sector projects throughout Southern California. The salary range for this position is $97,000.00 - $145,000.00, dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce, prepare, and edit CAD drawings and mapping deliverables including boundary surveys, topographic maps, land title surveys, parcel maps, tract maps, ALTA/NSPS surveys, subdivision maps, as-built surveys, and construction calculations.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or other survey software for map preparation, data processing, and construction staking support.
- Process field data collected by survey crews and perform quality control (QA/QC) checks to verify accuracy and completeness.
- Perform detailed boundary analysis, closure calculations, coordinate geometry (COGO) computations, and resolve discrepancies in field data.
- Research survey records, land titles, title reports, deeds, and easements to obtain accurate property and boundary information.
- Prepare legal descriptions, plats, exhibits, Records of Survey, Corner Records, and other official survey documents.
- Review and interpret civil, architectural, and structural plans to provide technical support to field crews and project managers.
- Assist in reviews and process results of field surveys.
- Prepare related data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents associated with surveys.
- Ensure all deliverables comply with professional land surveying standards, jurisdictional codes, regulations, and company quality initiatives.
- Collaborate with survey field crews, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely project execution.
- Communicate effectively to clarify survey requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Assist in tracking project scopes, schedules, and budgets; collaborate with project managers to strategize and resolve performance issues.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in land surveying, boundary and mapping, or related roles within surveying, engineering, or construction industries.
- Must have LS license.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.
- Experience with Trimble, GPS, and processing scanning data is preferred.
- Familiarity with Autodesk survey databases is a plus.
- Knowledge of MicroStation and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred.
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, including boundary analysis, coordinate geometry (COGO), legal description writing, cut sheet preparation, staking data, and construction support workflows.
- Experience preparing legal descriptions, plats, final maps, parcel maps, records of survey, subdivision mapping, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and easement exhibits.
- Knowledge of California land use laws, regulations, survey standards, and agency requirements, particularly in Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles counties.
- Understanding and compliance with professional land surveying standards and jurisdictional codes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills for supervising field crews and working collaboratively with engineers.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform accurate and precise calculations.
