SUMMARY:
- An Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for HVAC and plumbing projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documents
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and related documents
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes
- Provide all deliverables for RFP purposes, e.g., budget/bid, schedule, and approach
- Performs all preconstruction, estimating, and bidding functions
- Conduct site visits as needed to assess conditions and gather information for accurate estimating
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure accurate scoping and pricing
- Assist in developing budgets for design-build and negotiated projects
- Participate in design-build efforts by providing early-phase cost input, value engineering options, and constructability feedback during the design process
- Maintain and update historical cost data and estimating tools
- Prepare and present bid proposals and ensure timely submission
- Track project budgets and assist in change order pricing
- Identify and communicate potential project risks and opportunities
- Understands subcontractor bidding risks and exercises best bidding practices
- Stay up to date with market trends, pricing, and construction methods
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Preferred 3+ years of estimating experience in HVAC and plumbing
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Trimble, FastPIPE, QuoteSoft, Bluebeam, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documents
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Strong computer skills (MS Excel, Word, etc.)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience acceptable
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills must accompany their technical skills
