Summary
The Superintendent is a leader with extensive knowledge of construction. Superintendents use their leadership skills to manage a team of construction workers. They create schedules and plan all aspects of the construction project daily using a technical and practical approach. Superintendents oversee the entire project, ensuring it does not encounter any issues or delays. If any problems arise, they will possess the critical thinking and decision-making abilities to resolve them quickly, effectively, and creatively, thereby staying on the projected schedule.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Design a schedule for the project
- Inspect progress to ensure all work is completed following mandated building codes and policies, as well as environmental regulations
- Provide information about the progress of the project
- Address any concerns, answer inquiries, and give updated schedules
- Complete job walks to assist with estimating upcoming bids
- Coordinate tasks according to priorities and plans
- Coordinate and forecast inspection dates
- Supervise and train workers and tradespeople
- Ensure manpower and resources are adequate
- Guarantee all safety precautions and quality standards are met
- Monitor expenditure to ensure it remains within budget on time
- Resolve problems when they arise
- Report on progress to managers, engineers, etc.
- Taking all breaks and lunch on time every day.
- Completing necessary paperwork as needed.
- Staying knowledgeable on codes and new information about fire sprinkler installation.
- Read/understand construction, architectural, and structural plans
- Monitor Timecards
- Coordinate with superintendents and other trades on installation and field issues.
- Coordinate and interact with building Inspectors

Education, Experience, Knowledge
Fifth-year college or university program certification; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Basic math skills are a necessity. The ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in unstandardized situations.
