We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Surveyor - Mapping Specialist with a California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license to support civil engineering and land development projects. This role is responsible for precise boundary establishment, cut sheets, and detailed mapping. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in surveying principles, proven leadership in guiding survey teams, and extensive experience managing projects from initial research and analysis to final mapping and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical execution of survey mapping tasks across a variety of civil engineering and land development projects.
- Perform detailed boundary analysis, closure calculations, and coordinate geometry (COGO) computations to resolve discrepancies in field data.
- Research and analyze survey records, title reports, deeds, easements, and other legal documents to determine accurate boundary and property information.
- Prepare and review legal descriptions, plats, exhibits, Records of Survey, Corner Records, and other official survey documentation.
- Interpret field data and prepare topographic maps and CAD drawings for agency submittals and internal review.
- Produce, prepare, and edit mapping deliverables including boundary surveys, topographic maps, parcel maps, tract maps, ALTA/NSPS surveys, subdivision maps, as-built surveys, and construction calculations.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and other survey software for drafting, data processing, and construction staking support.
- Process field data collected by survey crews and perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) checks to verify accuracy and completeness.
- Review and interpret civil, architectural, and structural plans to provide technical guidance to field crews and project managers.
- Develop and prepare Field Workplans, subdivision maps, Records of Survey, Right-of-Way maps, ALTA surveys, and related documentation.
- Assist in the review and processing of field survey results, preparing associated data, charts, maps, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure all deliverables meet professional land surveying standards and comply with jurisdictional codes, regulations, and company quality standards.
- Collaborate closely with survey field crews, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate project execution.
- Communicate clearly to define project requirements and resolve technical challenges.
- Provide mentorship and task delegation to junior staff; assist with scheduling, technical support, and quality control oversight.
- Support tracking of project scopes, schedules, and budgets, and work with project managers to address performance concerns.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the State of California.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in all phases of land surveying, including public mapping projects such as records of survey, legal descriptions, and exhibits.
- Extensive knowledge of boundary establishment methods, boundary analysis, coordinate geometry (COGO), and legal description writing.
- Proficient in preparing legal descriptions, plats, final maps, parcel maps, records of survey, subdivision maps, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and easement exhibits.
- Strong understanding of surveying principles and construction support workflows, including cut sheet preparation, staking data, and construction calculations.
- Familiar with California land use laws, survey standards, and agency requirements, particularly in Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles counties.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply professional land surveying standards and jurisdictional codes.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Trimble Business Center, and StarNet.
- Familiarity with Autodesk survey databases is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to supervise field crews and collaborate with engineers.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to perform accurate and precise calculations.
