BIM / VDC Engineer – Wood Framing & Structural (Vertex BD)
Location: Los Angeles, CA (In-house preferred)

Compensation: $80,000 – $130,000 annually (DOE) + Performance Bonuses

Position Summary
We are seeking a BIM / VDC Engineer with strong experience in wood framing and structural systems to lead our modeling and digital takeoff processes using Vertex BD.
This role is ideal for a professional who bridges the gap between field construction knowledge and digital modeling, bringing accuracy and efficiency to preconstruction and estimating workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed wood framing models using Vertex BD
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings with precision
- Produce accurate and complete material takeoffs, including:
- Lumber packages
- Sheathing
- Simpson Strong-Tie hardware
- Shear wall systems
- Identify design conflicts and constructability issues prior to construction
- Support estimating, bidding, and procurement efforts
- Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and field teams
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal BIM and estimating systems
Qualifications
- Experience with Vertex BD or comparable BIM/VDC software
- Strong understanding of wood framing methods and structural systems
- Proven experience with material takeoffs and construction estimating
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural plans
- Proficiency in Excel and/or estimating software
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on field experience in framing or carpentry
- Experience working on high-end custom residential projects
- Familiarity with Revit and/or AutoCAD
- Knowledge of Simpson Strong-Tie systems and applications
- Experience working in the Los Angeles market or similar environments
