Role Summary
Provide accounting support for company operations and construction projects, including project setup, job cost tracking, owner billing, vendor and subcontractor payments, month-end close, audit support, and financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Project accounting scope - Support project accounting from setup through closeout, including job cost tracking, change-order support, subcontract and supplier cost tracking, and organized project financial records.
- General ledger / journal entries - Prepare and enter journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, and other routine accounting adjustments, with appropriate support and review.
- Reconciliations and record maintenance - Analyze, reconcile, and maintain accounting records and schedules, including general ledger balances, banking, intercompany activity, and selected balance-sheet and income-statement accounts.
- Job cost review and discrepancy resolution - Review job cost activity, identify discrepancies, and coordinate with project management and accounting leadership to resolve cost, coding, billing, and documentation issues.
- Month-end close and reporting - Assist with month-end and year-end close, including reconciliations, accrual support, project reporting, and recurring financial reports for management.
- Audit support - Prepare audit workpapers and support internal, external, owner, and project audits by organizing records and responding to information requests.
- Tax / compliance support - Assist with recurring tax, licensing, and related compliance reporting requirements, as assigned.
- Ad hoc analysis / process improvement - Assist with ad hoc analysis, special projects, and improvement of accounting processes, reporting tools, and internal controls.
- Project-team coordination - Coordinate with project managers, project engineers, operations staff, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve accounting issues and support project documentation flow.
Qualifications
- Education / credentials - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field preferred. Active CPA or working towards CPA preferred.
- Systems and software - Intermediate Excel skills required. Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems and project-management platforms preferred including JDE and SAGE.
- Experience range - 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred, with construction accounting, project accounting, or contractor-facing accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Project & Job Costing preference - Experience supporting public works, heavy civil, water, wastewater, or infrastructure projects is a plus.
- Communication / independence - Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills required. Ability to take initiative, manage priorities, and work effectively independently and on a team.
- Analytical ability / judgment - Demonstrated analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment in reviewing financial data, identifying issues, and supporting business decisions.
- Physical / work environment - Primarily office-based, with occasional visits to active jobsites or project offices. Must be able to perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
