Summary
Serve as internal advisor in managing and evaluating aspects of successful Risk Management practices including insurance, bonding, CCIP, subcontractor default insurance, other insurance matters, and efficient claims management. Assess risk and provide alternatives to offset any potential risk through communication with outside customers, corporate and field customers, and insurance providers.
Essential Functions
- Act as a resource for Operations, Business Development, Preconstruction, Finance and Legal on all Risk Management related issues.
- Keep internal clients informed of Risk Management trends and issues.
- Assist in owner contract review for insurance purposes.
- Consult with legal counsel on issues required in owner contracts.
- Research specialty insurance coverage for placement as required by contract.
- Coordinate placement of specialty insurance coverage with Risk Manager – Operations.
- Ensure all project insurance placements are bound according to contract terms, managed and tracked though project performance and closed out at project completion.
- Ensure Preconstruction, Operations and Finance are properly advised on all costs related to project insurance placements.
- Assist Preconstruction and Operations in finding acceptable solutions to Risk Management issues.
- Assume leadership in training personnel on Risk Management policies and procedures and other topical issues.
- Create and run various Risk Management reports for compliance and tracking purposes as required.
- Process subcontractor’s payment and performance bonds and review for compliance and entry into job management system.
- Run claim reports and maintain claim logs.
- Assist in the subcontractor prequalification process.
- Identify subcontractor insurance exceptions, evaluate exposure, and effectively communicate issues to Operations.
- Review Proof of Insurance for off site stored materials and goods in transit.
- Maintain database of exceptions to group standards.
- Administer and manage all Contractor Controlled Insurance Programs.
- Administer and manage subcontractor default insurance program.
- Assist with external contract audit issues.
- Perform training on Risk and Insurance for owners and others as required by Operations.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
The majority of work is completed in an office setting with intermittent sitting, standing and walking.
Education, Experience, and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business or related field is required. Five years experience in the property and casualty insurance industry with three years experience with the construction industry is preferred and will be considered in lieu of academic credentials.
- Paralegal certification or experience, preferred.
- Strong computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability in document proofreading skills.
- Able to organize people, tools, equipment, and other resources and orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish desired results.
- Demonstrated leadership skills: willing and able to face challenges, delegate and provide direction to others, and effectively address conflict.

The base compensation range for the role of Risk Manager Operations posted above is $100-125,000 annually.
