Description
The Estimator provides the necessary Mechanical, Controls & Plumbing/Piping take-off documentation and assistance in developing designs, budgets, bid estimates and quotations in order to accurately complete the project estimating and bidding process at ASSC. The Estimator reports directly to the Estimating manager.
FUNCTION
- The Estimator is responsible for the entirety of the project estimating and bidding process.
- Working alongside the Project Manager, the estimator will help with change order requests.
- Analyzes blueprints, specifications, bid requests and other documentation to prepare labor time, labor cost, subcontractor, material and equipment cost estimates in developing bid estimates.
- Does Take Offs of drawings and specifications in preparation for preparing bids and estimates in response to customer requirements.
- Provides input as to our bid strategies and which markets to pursue.
- Provides sales and estimating support to the Project Managers.
- The Estimator is expected to be a collaborating member of the project team.
- To utilize HVAC, Controls, Architectural Sheet Metal and Plumbing systems designs and specifications for preparation of bid estimates. As applicable to their discipline.
- The Estimator performs other duties as assigned by the Estimating Manager.
Responsibilities And Duties
Primary duties.
- Foster and maintain relationships with our clients (Owners, General Contractors, developers, architects, etc)
- Provide complete and accurate estimates for ASSC scope of work.
- Create RFI’s as required while completing estimate
- Gather, update, and review historical cost data
- Works alongside our engineering team for design build projects.
- Attend bid meetings and develop and execute bid strategy
- Attends pre-bid project meetings and walk-throughs.
- Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining bid documents, sub and vendor requests, takeoff, and associated bid dates.
- Ensures all bid invitations are responded to appropriately.
- Reads and reviews all general requirements in specifications, reviews the scope of work for the entire project and identifies those areas in which the company may need the services of a subcontractor.
- Ensures that key subcontractors are identified and contacted and that any site visits are conducted with subcontractors.
- Ensures a minimum of three suppliers are contacted, bids are solicited, and all bids are evaluated in a timely manner.
- Identify and build relationships with new vendors and subcontractors.
- Ensures that proper communications are maintained during the bidding process with general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, suppliers and others where appropriate.
Pre-Construction Activities
- Attends any Estimating handoff meetings per the ASSC SOP.
- Assists in the preparation of submittal information as required by the contract.
- Make sure all personnel are working with the latest drawings.
- Creation of the initial job budget including review with Project Manager and field leaders.
- Population of labor tracker templates based on estimate for tracking in field.
Job-In-Process Activities
- Works with the Project Managers to review periodic job cost reports to identify actual or potential cost overruns/savings or estimating errors.
- Clarifies questions as they arise to assure the successful completion of the project.
- As requested by the Project Managers, analyzes all potential scope changes to assure that the additional work required is within the original scope and if not assure that a change order is requested.
Post-Job Activities
- Works with the Project Manager regarding the analysis of each completed job from the standpoint of estimate vs actual cost, number of hours required, material used, cost for subcontract work and other factors.
- Analyzes unsuccessful bids and determines incorrect estimates, errors and remedial measures for future bids, documenting same for the reference library.
- Understands and utilizes labor tracking data gather by Project Manager.
Position is considered a salary position. Salary range is 80K - 120K depending on experience.
Requirements
- Ideal Candidate will have 2-5 years of estimating experience or related field experience.
- Design Build project approach experience is a plus, but not Mandatory.
- Knowledge of related codes.
- Experience on Trimble AutoBid estimating software a plus, but not mandatory.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively
- Understanding of the construction process and the ability to read blueprints is mandatory.
- Knowledge of cost estimating, bidding, and proposal writing processes is mandatory.
- Mus be able to use computers and software related to estimating (Bluebeam, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Etc.)
