Performs a variety of maintenance, repair, installation and/or cleaning activities, which may involve: alleys, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, asphalt, pot holes, NPDES drainage, drainage ditches, traffic signage and controls, pavement markings, NPDES storm drains, culverts, basins, wastewater collection systems, sewer lines, storm drain lines, catch basins, manhole covers, water leaks, water mains, water services, fire hydrants, backflow devices and other related appurtenances.

Participates and assists co-workers with work methods, techniques, and procedures related to: right-of-way maintenance; heavy equipment operation; specialized wastewater equipment; specialized sewer cleaning equipment; tree removal/trimming; vegetation control; litter removal; water, service, water main and valve installation; water leak repairs; main valve replacement; meter reading; locating and marking services for contractors; securing hazardous materials; and/or other related activities.

Documents work activities and maintains related records and logs.

Responds to inquiries and requests for maintenance; recommends solutions to problems and issues; assists in starting new service and/or turning off service; may be required to be on-call for emergency response situations.

Troubleshoots problems related to right-of-way maintenance, leaks, fire hydrants, water quality, services, mains, meters, storm and sewer blockages, spill volume, and other related equipment.

Operates and maintains a variety of equipment and tools, which may include: dump trucks, backhoes, roller viberplates, chain saws, pole saws, cement saws, weed eaters, grinders, bobcats, trenchers, air compressors, jack hammers, saw cutters, forklifts, power freezing units and tanks, oxygen and acetylene tanks, and/or other related items.

Observes and follows established safety precautions regarding traffic control, confined space, trenching, excavating, and power equipment operation.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
APPLICANTS MUST HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF:
Customer service principles, basic record keeping techniques, applicable maintenance practices related to concrete, asphalt, signage, traffic control, trees, storm drains, a variety of equipment and tools; maintain and follow safe work practices.
APPLICANTS MUST HAVE ABILITY TO:
Operate a variety of equipment and tools; operate medium and heavy trucks; perform manual labor; troubleshoot equipment problems; maintain, repair, and clean equipment and trucks; complete paperwork and documentation by hand and with computers; provide customer service; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish, maintain and follow safe work practices; maintain and fosters positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work as well as coworkers, supervisors and the general public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, push, pull, and exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations, availability for shift work, on-call, stand-by, and emergency call.
