Construction Superintendent provides management and oversight of all aspects of field operations and to work closely with the Project Manager to ensure overall positive results at the Project level.
You must be well organized and have excellent planning, communication and problem-solving skills necessary to manage the oversight and coordination of, at times, multiple concurrent projects. You are responsible for delivering projects safely, and in compliance with plans and specifications, you will coordinate and assign daily personnel and Subcontractors in the execution of this work. You are responsible for learning, knowing and executing project plans, specifications and schedules, including closely monitoring critical path elements and coordinating the sequencing/phasing of the project(s). You are responsible for coordinating day-to-day site activities with the Clients field representatives (CM/inspectors, etc.), to include but not limited to scheduling and attending all inspections, coordinating access/LOTO’s/Permits as well as general daily communication, coordination and notification. You are responsible for maintaining & updating a “3 week Look Ahead schedule” on your projects in coordination with the PM. You are responsible for general quality control at the field level in ensuring that all materials are approved prior to installation and that craft workmanship are in compliance with plans/specifications and executed in a quality manner.
A primary element of your role as Construction Superintendent is taking a leadership in promoting GLC’s safety culture at the field/project level, ensuring that everyone on the project is properly trained for the work they are about to do, and that they plan for, understand, and practice the highest level of safety in the performance of their work.
You are responsible for ensuring all general IIPP and project specific Safety Programs are actively exercised and documented on your projects, and that each day the requisite safety meeting/training/documentation is (PTHA/SPA/JHA/AHA, as applicable) are documented and filed properly. You are responsible for ensuring that all personnel at a given site have the requisite training and documentation for that site, as applicable (i.e., GERT Training at LBNL).
In general terms, as Superintendent you are GLC’s primary field representative on a project, and you are expected to conduct your work with the highest level of professionalism and ethics at all times.
Superintendent responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Review, implement, actively manage and document compliance with the IIPP, Site Specific Safety Plan, and Environmental and Quality Programs. Assure all work/field activities have associated AHA’s.
· Conduct DAILY PTHA/JHA/AHA meetings prior to work, document and properly file each day
· Maintain written daily log and progress photos of all activities on the jobsite and document any project issues. Detailed Daily reports are a priority requirement of this position.
· Manage and implement the project Schedule. Forecast labor, material & equipment. Conduct Pre-Task meetings with all critical trades prior to commencing field work to review general safety, scheduling and coordination.
· Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, inspections etc. are applied for in a timely manner.
· Develop site logistic plan, coordinate lay-down areas and ensure the site is always kept in a clean, organized and secure manner.
· For layout, ensure the accuracy of basic surveying, layout and field measurements – verify the accuracy of lines, corners, elevations, grades, alignments, angles, positions and distances.
· Work closely with the project team and trade partners to ensure work plans, materials, tools, processes, and activities are pre-planned and executed correctly & in accordance with GLC standards.
· Actively participate in the project OAC meetings.
· Monitor the performance of subcontractors and implement field level strategies to ensure quality, compliance and timeliness. Notify PM of any issues with Subcontractors performance and/or quality.
· Anticipate potential challenges/issues with work interference, schedule difficulties, constructability, staffing, etc. Proactively develop solutions and implement corrective plans/actions. Communicate issues to the PM and project Team.
· Always promote the highest level of professionalism and ethics.
· Provide leadership in training Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, Foreman and Field Crews in their work, with the goal of helping them develop into future Superintendents
· Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with all Clients, subcontractors, owners’ reps, architects, engineers, suppliers, inspectors, and other employees assigned to the project
