Our client is a seeking a Director of Risk Management to lead all risk-related functions, including quantitative analysis and enterprise risk oversight for the company’s energy and commodity portfolio. This role ensures consistent monitoring, measurement, and reporting of market and operational risks, while managing compliance with internal risk policies. The position supervises a Senior Risk Analyst and plays a key leadership role in the Enterprise Risk Management Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily risk analysis, monitoring, and reporting of physical and financial commodity positions.
- Quantify portfolio risks using measures such as MtM, VaR, GMaR, volatility, and correlation.
- Maintain clear and consistent risk reporting for senior management, the Risk Committee, and the Board.
- Lead compliance with risk limits and policies; escalate issues when needed.
- Drive stress testing, scenario analysis, and backtesting of risk exposures.
- Evaluate hedging strategies and commercial performance of the physical energy portfolio.
- Enhance risk systems (ETRM) to support robust risk analytics and reporting.
- Guide ERM efforts, ensuring all business risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and reported.
- Chair the Enterprise Risk Management Committee, coordinating agendas, materials, and follow-ups.
- Advise the CFO and leadership on key portfolio and enterprise risk exposures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in finance, economics, engineering, or related field; advanced degree (MBA, MS in Finance or Quantitative field) required.
- 8+ years of experience in energy risk management, with a focus on the merchant power or IPP sector.
- Strong knowledge of commodity trading, gas/power markets, and derivative instruments.
- Experience with middle-office controls, risk systems, governance, and reporting.
- Proven leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex technical data into actionable insights and recommendations.
- High integrity, strong decision-making skills, and a collaborative mindset.
