JOB DESCRIPTION The Academic Coordinator is primarily in charge of spearheading and overseeing the development of curriculums deemed necessary for company education. This position is to ensure the company provides a constant field education platform that will continue to develop the skills and knowledge of the company tradespeople. The roll also involves enrollment, tracking, and communication of outside programs, licenses and certificates that are required or may be acquired by our field. The Academic Coordinator will also participate in developing, instructing, and communicating ongoing office staff education classes and certifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Internal Field Education
1. Development and maintenance of a curriculum for ongoing education with a focus on development and instruction for different classifications of the company’s tradespeople (e.g. Ongoing General Education, Leadman, Foreman, Labor Manager) based on the company’s needs. 2. Assist VP of Field Development & VP of Strategy and Planning in training needs at Foreman/Labor Manager meetings including organization of materials, creation of presentations, and assistance with others with presentations.
3. Class/Course Instruction
4. Ensure a constant schedule of classes are taking place with a goal of classes once a week after 4pm, and once a month on Saturdays (subject to company’s educational needs).
5. Recruiting volunteers for instruction when required.
6. Onsite specialized training as needed such as Trimble, Lighting Control Systems, Etc.
7. Utilization of multiple methods of instruction to include in person, labs, virtual, video, etc.
8. Tracking attendees and creating certificates of completion
9. Procurement of educational supplies required for classes
10. Inventory and upkeep of company training tools/materials
11. Coordination of food and drinks for classes if necessary
12. Creating, sending, and tracking invites for classes
13. Create a class/course review survey for continued feedback/improvement
14. Create and maintain, with VP of Field development, annual budget for field education.
15. Collaborate with VP of Strategy and Planning & VP of Field Development in drafting and outlining standard field policies, and training of such policies.
16. Work with Safety Department regarding new safety guidelines, and trending issues to incorporate into classes/courses.
External Field Education
1. Staying current with external training opportunities and provide companywide announcements with registration instructions.
2. Track external certificates gained by employees and uploading to employee files within company software(s). Includes tracking expiration dates.
3. Send, track, and monitor Skilled & Trained Workers (STW) applications. Notification of admitted employees start date to Payroll/HR department. Including uploading all STW proof of apprenticeship to the DIR.
4. Obtain proof of ongoing training (32 hours of CEU) from WECA after completing STW program for employee’s JW renewal.
5. Approve invoices for external education; ABC, WECA and CET received by company payroll department. 6. Participate in ABC SOCAL interviews for indentured apprentices.
7. Send, track, monitor newly nominated Electrical Trainee (ET) apprenticeship applications. Internal
Office Education
1. Assist with development and instruction with required office classes.
2. Tracking and filing office employee certifications.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS (Preferred but not mandatory)
1. Maintain an active California Certified Journeyman License
2. Knowledge of installation practices and means and methods.
3. Efficiency in necessary software such as PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Blue Beam.
4. Ability to independently develop and deliver presentations.
5. Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of management and to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies within the industry.
7. Ability to advise VP of Field Development & VP of Strategy and Planning on necessary training and educational topics for ongoing education.
8. Ability to exercise discretion and make independent choices, free from immediate direction or supervision.
9. Ability to motivate people and stimulate desire for increased knowledge.
10. Ability to maintain integrity, accountability, credibility, and high ethical standards.
11. Work requires the ability to maintain a flexible schedule.
WORKING CONDITIONS Working conditions are normal for an office or field environment. Work may require weekend and/or evening work.
