Role Description:
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Project Manager to join our growing team in the commercial structural and miscellaneous steel industry. This role is critical to ensuring the successful execution of fabrication and installation projects from contract award through closeout. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in steel construction, experience using Tekla Powerfab, and familiarity with CNC cutting equipment and related industry-standard software. The Project Manager will serve as the primary liaison between clients, internal teams, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Coordination
- Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications to define project scope and requirements.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Coordinate with Estimating, Drafting, Production, and Field Installation teams.
- Manage submittal processes, RFIs, change orders, and approvals.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, general contractors, and design teams.
- Conduct regular progress meetings and provide status updates.
- Resolve project issues proactively and communicate potential risks or delays.
Fabrication & Installation Oversight
- Interface with the shop foreman and CNC programming teams to align fabrication schedules and outputs.
- Ensure timely delivery of shop drawings and material orders via Tekla Powerfab.
- Support field operations with scheduling, documentation, and material logistics.
Documentation & Reporting
- Track and manage all project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, and closeout packages.
- Maintain accurate records in Tekla Powerfab and other project management tools.
- Prepare and present internal reports on project progress, profitability, and performance metrics.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in project management within the steel fabrication/construction industry.
- Strong understanding of structural and miscellaneous steel systems and installation methods.
- Familiarity with CNC equipment and software integrations (e.g., DSTV, nesting software).
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
- Experience working with AISC standards and OSHA regulations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, Bluebeam, and other construction software tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- PMP or CM-Lean Certification.
- Experience with other industry tools such as AutoCAD, SDS2, Tekla Structures, Procore, or ERP systems.
- Proficiency in Tekla Powerfab (ERP, EPM Go, Trimble Connect, etc.).
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with regular visits to the fabrication shop and job sites.
- Occasional travel may be required for site meetings or project coordination.
- Must be able to navigate active construction sites and wear PPE as needed.
