The Yard Forman plays a critical role in helping to manage the workflow, and day-to-day operations of the yard. They work to coordinate both the office and yard teams to help prepare orders to be delivered to our customers. This position reports to the Branch Manager and assists with overseeing the work activities of equipment technicians. This role participates in the review process for employees within the yard and is responsible for providing ongoing assessments (formal and information) as well as assisting with the disciplinary process. This position is a safety sensitive position and must work safely in compliance with our safety program.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the preparation of rental equipment for customer orders. This includes assigning yard personnel/equipment technicians to test shores, clean/mitigate damages and utilize forklift to load trucks.
- Provide deadlines to equipment technicians and yard team for assigned tasks as dictated by customer orders.
- Perform daily inventory counts, tracking levels on the Excel file provided by the inventory team.
- Organize inventory in yard according to various logical specifications. Provide information for product levels, and perform stock-checks, making sure to recognize the difference between similar rental products.
- Utilize fork-lift to load or move equipment as needed in the yard and/or prepare a delivery.
- Complete load checks before equipment leaves branch location and then review equipment as it returns to confirm all rental and pick-up orders are complete.
- Read orders from the customer service/sales team. Prepare equipment according to the specifications outlined in the corresponding customer contract. Communicate requirements to team members to complete orders on the same day.
- Speak to team members with kindness and respect, constantly upholding the values of Trench Shoring Company.
- Participate in the quarterly review process and assist with disciplinary needs. Provide ongoing feedback to team members in a constructive and helpful manner.
- Assist with safety meetings and identify safety hazards as they occur. Work directly with the branch manager and safety team to eliminate hazards.
- Maintain an organized and clean yard with equipment in the correct location with all refuse removed.
Requirements:
- Ability to identify specific individual rental products and provide accurate count to inventory and office teams. Must have superior attention to detail as information being provided affects the availability of products that can be ordered by customers.
- Capable of being fork-lift certified and utilizing the forklift to load or move equipment as needed by the requirements in the yard.
- Strong communication skills.
- Have the ability to mobilize yard team to prepare orders on a timely basis and respond to emergency orders.
- Be able to coordinate on-going work in the yard, including testing shores, cleaning and preparing equipment for rent.
- Read order requirements created by office team and accurately prepare orders for delivery and/or pick-up.
- Ability to utilize online training modules to increase business acumen as related to Trench Shoring Company, and expand knowledge of product offerings, safety, communication skills, and other business-related topics.(Such training is to be completed on a computer and/or company-subsidized device and involves sitting continuously at a desk or classroom for the duration of the training, up to 8 hours at a time.)
- Must commit to work a minimum of 10 hours per day or 50 hours per week and in addition may be asked to work weekends or longer hours to support emergency orders.
- This is a non-exempt role, and all applicable Federal and State laws that mandate non-exempt employees receive overtime pay will be followed.

Qualifications:
- Regular, on-time and reliable work-site attendance.
- Ability to complete on-going yard walks to review the yard organization preparedness.
- Minimum high-school diploma or equivalent with 5-8 years of related experience in construction, inventory, warehouse environment, or similar industry.
- Currently valid Class C Driver's License issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles which must be eligible to be added to the Trench Shoring Company insurance policy.
- Must be able to communicate effectively across a variety of work environments and have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Time management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems.
- Ability to type, send/receive e-mails, and use computers or online software. Previous experience with online training tools is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment. Employee must be able to:
- Continually walk and stand wearing PPE in variable weather conditions (cold and hot, dry and wet).
- Occasionally sit while performing duties.
- Continually utilize hand and finger dexterity.
- Frequently climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.
- Continually talk and hear.
- Continually work near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally work in high, precarious places.
- Continually be exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Perform all duties of the job while working in an environment where the noise level is usually at a moderate level.
- Routinely lift 70 pounds but work within the constraints that lifting anything 50 lbs. and above requires assistance.
- Have the specific vision abilities that are required, including: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Wear all Trench Shoring Company mandated safety equipment (including but not limited to high-visibility vest, hard helmet, approved safety glasses and safety-toe boots).
- Strictly follow all safety rules, protocols, procedures and best practices as the position is a safety sensitive position.
