Job Summary
The Sr. Safety Manager is responsible for managing and providing oversight of the company’s health, safety, and environmental program. This position requires frequent interaction with safety managers and engineers to ensure they and the project teams are following Federal, State and Local laws, including the company’s health, safety, and environmental manual.
SALARY RANGE: $140,000.00 - $155,000.00 annually

Job Responsibilites
- Manage assigned safety engineers based on the region’s workload
- Assist with the development and revision of corporate safety policies
- Participate in preconstruction and preparatory meetings
- Evaluate project needs for frequency of site audits
- Distribute and analyze leading indicators for program evaluation
- Conduct mid and end of year performance reviews with assigned safety engineers
- Assist in developing and conducting the monthly safety meetings and the annual safety summits
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards
- Analyze incident reports and evaluate case studies to establish trend analysis based on acquired facts
- Develop and administer employee/craft site specific safety training and orientations
- Instruct and train project leaders in company safety programs and policies
- Assist project teams to identify and incorporate best safety practices into site programs
- Provide subject matter expertise in area assigned, if applicable
- Supervise and administer safety/first aid and emergency response activities
- Audit project work practices and track findings to completion. Use findings to evaluate trends and to provide data for continuous improvement
- Review incident performance to discover root causes and provide recommendations to the management team for corrective and preventive actions
- Lead the development of risk mitigation tools such as Accident Prevention Plans, Safe Operating Procedures, Job Hazard Analyses, Toolbox Meetings, and OSHA Outreach Training Programs
- Oversee the documentation of all accidents, safety violations, and unsafe conditions/activities
- Ensure corrective/disciplinary measures are followed on projects
- Oversee the issuance of work permits for high-risk activities
- Assist in workers compensation claim administration
- Participate in prequalification and performance monitoring of subcontractors
- Work with corporate safety director to continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and processes
- In-house training of self-performed crews. i.e. (forklift, scissor lift, First Aid/CPR etc.)
- Work with project superintendents to identify high risk activities and plan mitigation of hazards
- Assist with developing and implementing site safety paperwork
- Document site safety paperwork per BNB’s document retention policy
- Complete project audits weekly and appropriate follow up
- Walk new projects for safety setup and identify risks (Preconstruction walk)
- Participate in project kickoff meetings
- Assist with conducting job site safety meetings
- Supervise and administer safety/first aid and emergency response activities
- Respirator program-protocols and training
- Chemical awareness training and best practices for handling at project level protocols and training to be included in project submittal reviews
- Pre-construction analysis with the estimating team for contaminated buildings and/or soils
- Assist water mitigation and restoration
- Assist Fire damage prevention
- Assist with Asbestos/ Lead/ Mold abatement protocols & training
- Confined space (air quality) protocols and training (building enclosures prior to exhaust being in place)
- Assist with contaminated soils- Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) protocols and training
- Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) protocols and training
- Outdoor Air Quality (OAQ) protocols and training
- Inclement weather protocols
- Assist with Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) programs and training
- Hazard Communications updates and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
- Assist with Hearing testing conservation
- Ergonomics such as improving flex and stretch, tool and equipment recommendation for our industry, workstations analysis
- Have the capability to stand in for the Regional Safety Manager if they are unavailable or have scheduling conflicts
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years construction industry experience
- OSHA 30 hour construction certified
- Current First Aid CPR training
- Current OSHA Outreach Instructor credentials
- In-depth understanding of local and federal safety regulations for the construction industry
- Supervised subordinate staff members
- Experience overseeing industrial hygiene and fire protection programs
- Prefer experience with General Contractor managing self-perform work in a union environment
- Prefer project experience on jobs with construction costs of at least 20 Million dollars
- Understanding of subcontractor management and safety requirements for specialty trades
- Effective communicator, able to deliver clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to demonstrate expertise in construction safety practices when working with clients, subcontractors and project managers
