About the Opportunity
A well-established and growing design-build firm in San Diego is seeking a Project Manager to help deliver our multifamily construction projects. We specialize in innovative, urban housing projects ranging from 30 to 200 units and are committed to creating a more walkable and engaging city environment.
This role is a strong fit for a project manager who has run smaller jobs or supported larger ones and is ready to own a project end to end. You'll report to a Senior Project Manager and work alongside an experienced team, with a clear path toward larger, more complex assignments as you grow. Our integrated design-build approach gives you visibility into the entire project lifecycle — not just the construction window.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Manager supports and executes all phases of project construction, including pre-construction planning, budgeting, scheduling, and closeout. This role is a day-to-day point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, keeping communication clear and surfacing risks early.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing project delivery from pre-construction through closeout, with support from the Senior Project Manager on high-stakes decisions
- Building and maintaining project schedules and budgets, and tracking cost to complete
- Running the day-to-day subcontractor process: buyout, scopes, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and pay applications
- Partnering with the superintendent to keep field and office aligned on schedule, manpower, and sequencing
- Serving as a day-to-day client and design-team contact and maintaining strong working relationships
- Identifying project risks early and escalating them with a recommended course of action
- Ensuring all work meets project plans, specifications, and quality standards
- Championing a culture of safety and supporting OSHA compliance on site
- Preparing regular project status reports for the project team and management
Qualifications
Required:
- 4–7 years of construction project management experience, including time in a project engineer or assistant project manager role
- Hands-on experience with ground-up multifamily or Type V wood-frame construction
- Working knowledge of construction means and methods, CPM scheduling, and cost control
- Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, or Primavera)
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience on projects in the San Diego area
- Familiarity with design-build project delivery
- OSHA 30-hour certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire)
- Experience on projects valued at $5M+
