Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Production Planner for an established manufacturing organization. This is a full-time, onsite position located in Buena Park, CA.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Production Planner will own the analytical planning function that translates customer demand, inventory, work in process, and capacity data into an executable production plan and clear daily priorities. This role will work extensively with MRP/ERP systems and advanced Excel reporting to release and sequence work orders, analyze constraints, maintain planning parameters, and ensure production priorities align with customer commitments. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, data-driven, and comfortable turning complex manufacturing data into clear, defensible planning decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own the review of MRP output, including planned orders, action and exception messages, and demand/supply changes, taking action to maintain an accurate and executable production plan.
- Release and sequence work orders based on net demand while balancing finished goods, WIP, setup efficiency, lot sizing, inventory, outside processing lead times, capacity, and customer priorities.
- Manage the live WIP planning process and establish clear daily priorities by work center, translating customer forecasts, purchase orders, releases, and program requirements into monthly and weekly production plans.
- Analyze ERP and production data, including backlog, inventory, WIP, routings, labor, and capacity, to identify at-risk orders, coverage gaps, constraints, and resource needs; build and maintain advanced spreadsheet models and reporting tools.
- Maintain and optimize ERP/MRP planning parameters, including order policies, lot sizes, safety stock, lead times, and planning time fences, while monitoring schedule attainment, past-due backlog, committed ship plans, and build-ahead strategies.
- Partner cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Customer Service to align material, tooling, and capacity readiness and support new product introductions, program transfers, production ramp-ups, and recovery planning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience in production planning, materials planning, demand planning, production control, or a closely related function within a manufacturing environment, with strong knowledge of MRP logic, production routings, bills of material, inventory transactions, and planning parameters.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to independently build, maintain, and extend multi-tab models using complex formulas, lookups, conditional aggregation, dynamic arrays, pivot tables, and data connections.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret customer demand, inventory, WIP, production status, capacity, and technical information and translate that data into actionable production priorities.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems; experience with Infor SyteLine/CloudSuite Industrial or comparable ERP platforms and reporting/query tools such as Power BI, SQL, Power Query, or similar is highly valued.
- Experience within complex, precision, or regulated manufacturing environments is preferred, along with exposure to capacity planning, constraint-based scheduling, program transfers, or production ramp-ups.
