The
City of Anaheim Public Works Department seeks an experienced
Survey Party Chief to join the Construction Services Division. The Survey Party Chief is considered an advanced journey-level classification and is responsible for the effective performance, training and safety of all members of a field survey crew. A Survey Party Chief is distinguished from the classes of Survey Technician I/II by its sole assignment of surveying duties.
Candidates must possess an equivalent to journey level experience in field survey work and possess a California Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) Certificate. An equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Surveyor certification pay shall be $500 per year for LSIT Certification upon completion of a 12-month probationary period
Essential Functions
The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Direct a survey crew in making a variety of surveys, including land surveys to determine locations of property lines, boundaries, easements, and right-of-way; topographic surveys to determine locations and elevations of existing improvements, structures, and topographic features; construction surveys for improvement projects; survey to establish and adjust elevation benchmarks; and survey to establish and monument street centerlines.
Keep accurate field notes of work performed showing lines, angles, distances, benchmarks, mathematical calculations, and other data pertinent to the field survey.
Compute and adjust angles, distances, bearings, traverses, and elevations.
Operate survey instruments and instruct other crewmembers in their operation, calibration checks and maintenance.
Perform a variety of office surveying duties, including researching existing records and compiling data required for current survey projects.
Process field survey data (electronic and hardcopy) and produce Civil3D computer-aided design (CAD) files for engineering use of the data.
Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of technical subordinates.
Qualifications

Experience: Candidates must possess an equivalent to journey level experience in field survey work. An equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge of: Candidates must have knowledge of surveying methods, practices, and techniques; legal aspects of land surveying; algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; elementary principles and practices of engineering as related to surveying; sources of information concerning previous land surveys; principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
Ability to: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to understand and interpret legal descriptions and record survey maps; understanding and interpreting engineering plans, diagrams, and notes; using and caring for computers and computerized surveying instruments and equipment; making accurate and legible field survey notes; performing complex mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy; planning and organizing the work of a field survey crew to achieve optimum efficiency; supervising, training, and evaluating subordinate field survey personnel. Observant of safety procedures to protect crewmembers, inspectors, construction workers, drivers and pedestrians.
License/Certification: Candidates must be in possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License by date of appointment. Possession of a California Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) Certificate is also required.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS – The City contracts with the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) to provide retirement benefits. Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS.
Note: Pension contribution limitations are set by CalPERS each calendar year, with compensation limit requirements for Public Employee Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) members and Classic members.
