Maintenance Technician I:
Maintenance Technicians, keep machines in working order by detecting and correcting errors before the machine or the products it produces are damaged. Many of these machines are increasingly run by computers. Maintenance Technicians use technical manuals, their understanding of industrial equipment, and observation to determine the cause of a problem. After diagnosing a problem, they may take the equipment apart to repair or replace the necessary parts. Once a repair is made, they test a machine to ensure that it is operating correctly. In addition to working with hand tools, mechanics commonly use lathes, grinders, and drill presses. Many also are required to weld. They will directly report to their Maintenance shift lead. Our maintenance technicians are required to know the operational nuances of most of the facilities equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following - Ensure completion of equipment diaries, hand over records, and incident reports.
Documents their performance for each work order in accordance with the applicable work instructions.
Has the ability to quickly develop solutions to equipment malfunctions and can assist their lead in documenting the procedures to fix future malfunctions.
Is responsible for equipment changeovers for different packaging types and does so efficiently and effectively.
Understands the nuances of their assigned equipment changeover specifications.
Meets with packaging leads to discuss issues that arise with production equipment and develop and improve equipment operations.
Suggests and implements equipment modifications that will improve line efficiencies after approvable by the engineering department and/or maintenance supervisor.
Has the ability to read technical drawings.
Understands practical engineering skills including hand tools and machine tools.
Can follow escalation procedures for equipment malfunctions.
Is proficient with the operational and maintenance procedures for most of the facility equipment.
Keeps spare parts inventory organized and clear of clutter along with keeping inventory of personal or work tools.
Will work on the production floor or maintenance workshop for the entirety of the shift to ensure that the production line is moving.
Read technical manuals to understand equipment and controls
Disassemble machinery and equipment when there is a problem
Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components
Perform tests and run initial batches to make sure that the machine is running smoothly
Detect minor problems by performing basic diagnostic test
Test malfunctioning machinery to determine whether major repairs are needed
Adjust and calibrate equipment and machinery to optimal specifications
Clean and lubricate equipment or machinery
Move machinery and equipment
**Other duties may be assigned.
Food Safety Responsibilities: Complete food safety training and implement when needed.
Maintain quality requirements in accordance with company standards.
Housekeeping: maintain general housekeeping in all areas of fabrication or maintenance stations.
Keep the work area clean at all times, all individuals are responsible for their own mess.
No foreign objects to be left at a machine after maintenance work was performed.
Personal tool accountability needs to be enacted.
