Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Workers construct, maintain and repair the City's stormwater and drainage systems, including 9 miles of concrete channels, 20 miles of brow ditches, 10 static and 4 mechanical detention basins, 64miles of storm pipe, 105 miles of open channels, and 1,400 drop inlets. Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Worker I: $23.7293 - $28.8431 per hour
Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Worker II: $27.3055 - $33.1896 per hour
The person hired for the Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Worker I/II position will receive the following:
7/1/2025 - 5% wage increase
7/1/2026 - 5% wage increase
Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Workers perform a variety of work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of City stormwater and drainage systems and facilities; use and operate a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power-driven equipment.
Receives direct or general supervision from the Construction Maintenance Supervisor or assigned supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
Any combination of the following education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this classification.
Experience:
Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Worker I: One year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of stormwater and drainage, or related facilities, systems, and appurtenances.
Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Worker II: Three years of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of stormwater and drainage, or related facilities, systems, and appurtenances.
Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
Licenses and Certifications:
Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Worker I:
- A valid class C driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a class A driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Traffic Control Certificate.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Fork Lift Certificate.
- Ability to pass SCBA Fitness Testing and the certification process.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Confined Space Certificate.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Trench Shoring Certificate.
Stormwater Maintenance & Construction Worker II:
- Valid California class C driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a class A driver’s license with the appropriate endorsements within one year of completion of probation.
- Possess and maintain valid Traffic Control Certificate.
- Possess and maintain Fork Lift Certificate.
- Possess and maintain a valid SCBA/Fitness Testing.
- Possess and maintain Confined Space Certificate.
- Possess and maintain Trench Shoring Certificate.
- Possess and maintain valid CPR and First Aid certificates.
Physical Demands
Must possess mobility to work in the field; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders, to operate varied hand and power tools and construction equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various City sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds, or heavier weights with assistance or with the use of proper equipment.
Environmental Elements
Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
Working Conditions
May be required to be on-call and to work various shifts or emergencies on evenings, weekends, and holidays. In case of a Citywide emergency or natural disaster, employees in this class may be required to serve as an Emergency Response Technician.

Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of relevant training, education and experience as presented in the application and supplemental questions. The process may include interviews and/or performance tests. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligibility list established, which will be in effect for a period of up to six months.
